Just found your comment, CZ. I agree with you whole heartedly. And Christianity will sometimes indeed set us at odds with creative works. I'm sure the Southern Baptist church I belonged to would not approve of what I write. There are so many writers who use pen names because of the way people will look at them in general. I've often thought that it is such a shame we think of our sexuality as something to be hidden. Although, I do believe, that as with anything else, there is a reasonable line to be drawn. In Ms. Rice's case, only she knows whether it limited her writing in any way. I imagine it did. But it most certainly hasn't made any of her books less enjoyable to me. And I have to agree with her if I am reading her turn around correctly. It's not Christ she is rejecting but the constraints of organized religion. After all, religion is the product of man as man is inspired by God. So not necessarily God's viewpoint on all things is brought out through religion in general. Thanks for stopping by.

'Chrstianity' is such a gray, vague term anymore. If it were truly practiced, truly followed in accordance to the prophet Christ who it is named for, it would be a religion purely of the soul---not of buildings and Baptists, Catholics, Pentecostals, etc. It would be tolerant. It would not be material. It would truly see that all men and women are created equal.

I've always firmly believed that whatever words were truly spoken have been manipulated by organized religion, dating back to the barbaric English church who burned people at the stake for not embracing it as it was translated.

I'm sure Christ---judging by his own persecution---knew his words and his teachings would be mutilated by organized religion. It happened in his own time, and he fought it furiously. But the modern teachings are a sad, far cry from their orginal intent and philosphy.

As for Ann Rice. When she made her exit in favor of 'Chistianity', I told myself at that time that it would be temporary. It may very well have been a true seeking of her own spirituality. But I wondered, also, if being a 'Christian' writer was not as profitable. Not making a statement, not saying that it what I think, but i DID wonder about it.

Good, thoughtful blog, Tess. I enjoyed it!
